Drones are a way to combat ISIS

While the United States, Russia, and other countries want to use more modern aircraft, Ukraine does not have the same resources to train its soldiers on these aircraft. While Ukrainians are able to receive training on aircraft and other vehicles in Western nations like Germany, they can't get the same training for drones in Ukraine. Because Ukrainians have grown up using older equipment, such as trucks, drones are easier for them. Drones are also easy to use for soldiers because they don't need "pilots". Drones feature a user-friendly interface similar to that found in videogames.

Aerorozvidka

Ukrainian military employs a unique method to fight ISIS in eastern Ukraine. They use octocopters that are equipped with thermal cameras for nighttime operations. Some drones can even light up columns and are equipped with anti-tank weapons. These drones are highly maneuverable, and can carry as much 11 lbs payload. The drones' small size means they can fly low over targets and drop munitions.

Originally an IT enthusiast group, Aerorozvidka has become a military air reconnaissance unit. The first mission of the organization was to operate a drone company. But, over time, it became a fully-fledged unit, with its own head. Export controls prevented Russian military aircraft entering Ukraine. Aerorozvidka depends on crowdfunding and donations to keep the company afloat, as many of the drone components are made in the USA.

Switchblade

The U.S. military provides Ukraine with armed Swaitchblade drones. These can be used to strike Russian tanks up to a mile away. The US Air Force developed these unmanned aerial vehicles in response to Ukrainian needs. John Kirby (Pentagon spokesperson) stated that more then 121 of these machines have been dispatched to Ukraine. The Switchblades' use in the conflict in Ukraine is unknown.

The Switchblade small drone can be launched easily from a tube. It is capable of traveling 40 kilometers. The Switchblade has a range of 40 kilometers and can hit Russian convoys up to 6 miles, unlike Bayraktar. These small aircraft can be assembled in minutes during a conflict like that of Ukraine. The Switchblade is capable of flying much faster than the Bayraktar, which is the current U.S. ally.

Russian kamikaze drones

Recently, the US announced that it would provide $800 million in military assistance to Ukraine. Part of that package is the delivery of 121 unmanned aircraft, called "Phoenix Ghosts," which are intended to terrorize Russian forces. These aircraft can hover over areas for 30- to 40 minutes and are equipped to carry warheads and cameras. The Switchblade is a hovering munition weighing 5.5 pounds that can destroy tanks and armored vehicles.

These small, lightweight aircrafts are equipped with a powerful, low-flying gimbal, allowing them to operate from air, land, or sea. In a conflict like this, any advantage an opponent has over the other side in the aerial battle is important, and the use of Russian kamikaze drones is a direct threat to that advantage. This capability will prove to be critical for Ukraine's defense, since it can break Russian sieges as well as attack command-and-control centers. Although such capabilities could be a liability for both sides it could make a significant difference in the battlefield and help Ukraine emerge victorious.

U.S. loitering Drones

Russia began integrating ZALA KYB lotering munitions into its military arsenal. These drones can use deadly loitering munitions similar to bazookas. These autonomous killing machines could be a result of the use of loitering drones. However, observers and pundits worry about this. So what can the U.S. Do to prevent this?

According to Kirby, the U.S. government has dispatched more than 121 Switchblade loitering drones to Ukraine to help Kiev fight Russian forces. The Switchblade drone weighs 5.5 pounds and can hover for up to thirty to forty minutes. It comes with a camera as well as a small warhead. Its mission is to shoot down the opposition forces in Ukraine.
